Just had my 15th peer-reviewed paper accepted for publication since the start of 2019 (in the Journal of Child and Family Studies). Its a systematic review of school #mindfulness interventions for improving #mentalhealth
William Van Gordon lectures and conducts research in psychology at the University of Derby. He was a Buddhist monk for 10 years and received monastic ordinations in various Buddhist schools, including the higher ordination within the Theravada Buddhist tradition. William sits on the editorial board for various academic journals including Mindfulness and Mindfulness and Compassion. He is internationally recognised as an expert in the research and practice of mindfulness and Buddhist meditation. William has over 100 academic publications including in leading refereed medical and psychology journals such as the British Medical Journal, British Journal of General Practice, British Journal of Health Psychology, Frontiers in Psychology, Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, Psychology of Religion and Spirituality, Mindfulness, Explore, Aggression and Violent Behaviour, and the Journal of Behavioural Addictions. He is co-editor of two academic volumes published by Springer Publications: (i) Mindfulness and Buddhist-derived Approaches in Mental Health and Addiction, and (ii) The Buddhist Foundations of Mindfulness. Prior to becoming a Psychologist and Buddhist monk, William worked in management roles for companies such as Marconi Plc, PepsiCo International, and Aldi Stores Ltd. In the case of this latter position, he had total operational responsibility for a £28 million portfolio of six supermarkets with over 60 employees. He regularly travels all over the world to deliver lectures, workshops and retreats on mindfulness and Buddhist practice.
